The Isle of Skye turned into the Isle of dreams!

Wow! The only word we can use to describe the beauty of Isle of Skye. The rugged landscape was stunning and full of natural beauty. Mountains, streams, waterfalls, hikes, climbs, scrambles, walks; it really does have something for everyone.

We had a long list of places we wanted to visit, as always our plans changed within half an hour of arriving at our campsite. The campsite itself was peaceful, we were expecting this due to March being 'out of season'. We stayed at Isle of Skye Camping Pods, situated just off the main road with spectacular views of forests and mountains. The snow capped Black Cullins were clearly visible from our pod and we instantly decided we were heading there tomorrow.

We climbed Am Basteir first followed by Bruach Na Frithe, the views from the summits were breathtaking, stunning, out of this world. The blustery winds, snow and ice made it a day, and adventure to remember. The scramble to the summit of Am Bastier proved to be easy with spikes (link below), we both agreed this would not have been an easy decent without them. An 8 hour round trip filled the day perfectly!

The route to the summits were easy to follow. The landscape was rugged in parts, streams to cross, paths and the typical boggy areas.

We also visited The Fairy Glen and The Old Man of Storr. The scenery was once again stunning! The Fairy Glen walk was gentle and peaceful, we must have picked a good day to go as we only saw a few people that's the beauty of visiting out of season.

The Fairy Glen allowed us to take Cica on her first real explore in the wild, we have to say she loved it! We had spent a lot of time getting her used to her harness (link below) and being on a lead before attempting to take her to an unfamiliar location.

The Old Man of Storr was a gentle hike, perfect after a long hike the day before. We made the hike a circular route to take in all of the views possible. This was the busiest day for encountering people, it was clearly a popular tourist attraction. It was clear to see why, when we reached 'The Old Man'. The views over to Isle of Raasay were spectacular, in fact, the hike would have been worth it just for this. The beautiful blue sky and bright sun highlighted the landscape revealing the full natural beauty of the area.
